Class of ’22 Five-Star Vince Iwuchukwu Commits to USC
Five-star center Vince Iwuchukwu has committed to USC, as first reported by Joe Tipton of On3 Recruits. The San Antonio native chose the Trojans over Kansas, UCLA, Baylor and Texas. Iwuchukwu will be playing his final prep season at national powerhouse Montverde Academy, alongside fellow ESPN Top 25 talents in Dariq Whitehead (Duke), Skyy Clark (Kentucky), Dillon Mitchell (undecided) and Jalen Hood-Schifino (Indiana).
The 7-0 center’s motor is the most lauded aspect of his game. On both ends of the floor, Iwuchukwu is always working. He is a traditional big in the sense of the term, with a strong pick-and-roll game that usually ends in a lot of lobs or dunks. He still has time to iron out and improve the other facets of his game, especially on the perimeter, but USC head coach Andy Enfield has done a great job developing young bigs, most notably Onyeka Okongwu and Evan Mobley. That culture and development of great collegiate big men in recent years was one of the major factors in his decision, according to Iwuchukwu.
“That was a huge factor, it played a major role. A lot of colleges on my list have had bigs make it but to have bigs that are more modern like Onyeka, Chimezie Metu and Mobley it kind of moved my decision towards them because they’ve had guys like that who are just like me.”

In that same interview with 247Sports, Iwuchukwu also mentioned how important his relationship with the Trojans’ staff was in picking USC.
“The reason why is the coaching staff as soon as I started talking to coach Capko and coach Andy I felt like they were people I could be around for my college career. I visited campus and it was beautiful and they showed me ways that I can fit into their system and how they’ve used other guys with similar abilities to me who have been successful and gotten to the NBA and that’s my goal.”

With his recruitment closed, Iwuchukwu and his Montverde teammates will be looking to repeat as Geico national champions, before the former sets off to California in hopes of bringing a Pac-12 title and possibly a national title to Los Angeles.
