Dariq Whitehead Chooses Duke, Scheyer Gets Second Commit

Class of 2022 five-star wing Dariq Whitehead committed to Duke today – per an announcement on an Instagram live with New Jersey Hoop Recruit – giving Jon Scheyer his second commit in four days. The 6-6 wing was also considering Florida State, Kansas and the G League Ignite team before choosing the Blue Devils. Scheyer is coach-in-waiting for the Blue Devils and is off to a hot start on the recruiting trail after securing the commitments of Whitehead and forward Kyle Filipowski this week.

Whitehead is from Newark, New Jersey and plays basketball at national prep powerhouse Montverde Academy in Florida. 247Sports and ESPN each rank Whitehead sixth among all players in the 2022 class. On the court, the Montverde product is a stellar athlete. He is a high-flying wing that gets to the rim with ease. Off the bounce, he likes to get downhill quickly, while also displaying a solid finishing package and good mid-range game.

With two commits already under his belt, the college basketball world should not expect Scheyer and the rest of the Blue Devil staff to slow down. Five-star center Dereck Lively and five-star wing Mark Mitchell have received offers from Duke, in addition to four-star guards JJ Starling and Anthony Black.
