Former NFL Quarterback Alex Smith Joins ESPN

Recently retired NFL QB Alex Smith has accepted a role as an NFL analyst for ESPN. Rather than take on a full-time role out of the gate, Smith will use his first year to learn the ropes, appearing on shows such as “Monday Night NFL Countdown”. He announced his retirement in April of 2021. Smith also had tryouts to potentially become an NFL analyst for other stations, including CBS and FOX, but FOX decided to sign former NFL Quarterback Mark Sanchez and CBS decided to not replace Rich Gannon.

Good For You, Alex Smith

Smith had a successful career across his 16 seasons playing in the NFL. The number one overall pick in 2005, Smith started his career with the San Francisco 49ers before playing for the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Football Team. During his time in Washington, Smith suffered a gruesome and career-altering leg injury and most assumed his time in the NFL was over.

Smith then went on to have the greatest comeback story in recent memory. Playing eight games for the Football Team, Alex helped them win their first NFC East Division title since 2015. Smith went on to win NFL Comeback Player of The Year last year and inspired many with his tenacity and desire to play football again. While his time on the field is over, Smith’s new journey in the booth is just beginning. I am looking forward to seeing his football expertise in the ESPN studio this upcoming season.
