The Cowboys designated star wide out Dez Bryant as their franchise player after the team failed to reach a contract extension. Now it looks like Dez is considering sitting out until a new deal comes to fruition. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen broke the story.
The deadline for franchise tagged players to sign an extension is July 15th. If a new deal is not struck by then Bryant will have to decide if he is willing to play on a one year contract worth $12.823 million. Then again he could also decide not play at all. Bryant’s agent Tom Condon declined to comment on the situation.
“I’m just not going to comment about that,” said Bryant’s agent Tom Condon. “Our goal is still to get something done on a long-term basis by the deadline.”
Bryant will be entering his 6th NFL season. With Deymarius Thomas, Julio Jones, and A.J. Green being impending free agents it appears no team is willing to set the market for a receiver. With Calvin Johnson making an absurd 16 million a year, 4 million more than any other receiver, teams are scared of handing out big money contracts. Mike Wallace has proved that notion as he has not lived up to his mega contact so far.
