The Atlanta Falcons have released tackle Sam Baker, a man who has started 61 games in six seasons with the team after being drafted with the 21st overall pick in the 2008 draft. Sam Baker will now join the free agent class with recently released guard Evan Mathis. Baker, a tackle, may in fact have his eye on changing positions as well. Baker has been trying to make the team as a guard but simply isn’t healthy at this juncture.
“Well, he’s one of the guys rehabbing really hard,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said in March, per ESPN.com. “As he goes through it, we’re going to see when he can get healthy and get back on the field, like a number of the other guys.”
Baker is a serviceable lineman who should find a job relatively soon. The biggest question mark for the 30 year old is his health having only played in 4 games the past two seasons. The Giants are one team that could use his services as they are in need after the pectoral injury to William Beatty.
