Tom Brady played the entire 2020 season on a Torn MCL in his left knee, which we now know. Fans and members of the media were shocked to hear this when it was announced this off-season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers never disclosed this injury to the media, however. The original thought was that the Bucs were not to blame because Brady never mentioned it to them, but Clyde Christiansen shut those rumors down on a recent appearance on CBS Sports Radio.
Full quote via ProFootballTalk via NBCSports.com:
“I thought everyone knew [about Brady’s torn MCL],” Christensen said, via JoeBucsFan.com. “When I first met him, he said, ‘Hey, my knee’s not 100 percent but with the tape job and stuff I’ll make it through the season and after the season we’ll get her fixed up.’ . . . He really does have a unique understanding of his body and competing and what it takes, etc., and can manage it. . . . He kind of managed it. We tried to be smart. . . . We really didn’t modify much. We rested him like we would any veteran player at certain opportunities during the season.”
When you think about it, it really is remarkable that anyone could play a full season and win a Super Bowl with a torn MCL, let alone a 43-year-old Quarterback. Tom Brady has often found ways to defy the odds and get the job done no matter what. Did he have this MCL tear when he was clowning Aaron Rodgers before “The Match”? Who knows. Will he keeps secrets in regards to injuries in the future? I mean, it seemed to have worked this year so why not?
