Could Derrick Rose Return to the Chicago Bulls?

Derrick Rose won an MVP award with the Chicago Bulls in 2011. It is still remembered today by many NBA fans as one of the most legendary MVP runs of all time. Rose is also one of the biggest “what-ifs” of all time after injuries took their toll on his career. Reports have arisen that D-Rose may be open to returning to his hometown team this offseason.

Rose is currently a free agent after a solid season with the New York Knicks. The Knicks likely want to bring him back after securing the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. However, Chicago may also be a suitor. Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report wrote the following:

There are strong indications from league sources that mutual interest exist between Derrick Rose and his storied hometown franchise, where he claimed league MVP honors in 2010-11. It’s unclear how Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau can stand in the way of the Bulls’ potential advances.

Chicago will likely search for more than one point guard on the free-agent market, with a goal of pushing its Zach LaVine-Nikola Vucevic tandem into the postseason, especially as Coby White recovers from a shoulder injury.

Rose averaged 14.7 points and 4.2 assists while shooting 47.0% from the field and 38.8% from deep over 50 games for the Knicks last season. He is still a beloved player in the Chicago community. Finishing out his career with the Bulls would be a storybook ending to his career.
