Patrick Mahomes and Tyrann Mathieu did not mince words when it came to their relationship and long-term desires to remain in Kansas City. Even though they suffered a tough loss in the Super Bowl earlier this February, the reigning AFC Champs are seriously determined to reclaim the ultimate crown. The 2018 MVP stated this week that he would like to see the All-Pro safety remain in the Chiefs Kingdom for as long as him. Despite a 4-year age gap, the duo will more than likely get their wish for at least the next half-decade. It is a poorly kept secret that the Honey Badger would also like financial security that is similar to the level of Mahomes’. The former Texas Tech QB is locked into a record contract that keeps him in Kansas City until 2031, while Mathieu is set to become a free agent following the 2021 season.
There is no doubt the team would like to keep ahold of their defensive captain, but it remains to be seen if he will play for as long as Mahomes. After some retooling during the offseason, Mahomes and Mathieu are looking ready to get to work to ensure they win more than just a single Super Bowl during their time in Kansas City.
