I’ve been looking for something to watch on Netflix. Then I was scrolling on Twitter and our guy Bryan Tann did a film review podcast on The Mitchells Vs The Machines. I’m not really a cartoon guy outside of Family Guy but I figured I would give it a try. As I normally do, I’m not a film expert. I’m just a casual TV watcher trying to help you out when you’re looking for something to watch.
As always with these reviews, I try not to provide spoilers. There’s no point in writing this if I ruin the surprise. However, it’s kind of hard to do with this one. Long story short, there’s a robot apocalypse and the Mitchell Family has to save society. Who do you think comes out on top; the weird ass family in a cartoon or the robots? You don’t need my help with this one.
The first thing I will say is the voices got me intrigued. I didn’t even know who the cast was but I could pick up the voices. Blake Griffin, Danny McBride, and Abbi Jacobson from Broad City got my attention. Maybe this movie actually had some potential?
Despite the fact that you sort of know the ending going it, I will say I was pleasantly surprised. There were some genuinely good heart touching moments in there. A movie that really any age group can enjoy. There was even a couple of moments I chuckled which is saying a lot because I’m in a piss poor mood as I’m writing this. Would absolutely recommend it.
The Mitchells vs the Machines can be described as funny and surprisingly good. No complaints on my end. I was surprised how well the story was put together. It tugged at the heart strings. Well done right here and that’s saying something because I was not expecting great things.
