Carmelo Anthony may not be the same player that he was early in his career, but he is still a great player.
When the Portland Trail Blazers signed Carmelo Anthony a year ago, everyone was saying that he had nothing left in the tank.
Though he quickly turned heads last season when he became the third best player for the Portland Trail Blazers, he proved that he had a lot left in the tank.
Last season, he averaged 15.4 points with 6.3 rebounds. He shot 43% from the field and 38.5% from three. However, his numbers have dropped a bit this season due to an early season struggle.
This season, Melo is shooting 39% from the field and 37.5% from three, while averaging 13.1 points and 3.5 rebounds. His defense has improved a bit this season, as he is averaging 0.9 steals and 0.8 blocks.
His mindset has also changed. A lot of people said he would never be okay with coming off the bench. This season he has played in 28 games and only started 3 games. This season, he has played better as a starter, but with Derrick Jones Jr. and Robert Covington healthy and better defenders, they have become bonafide starters.
Carmelo Anthony has become a mentor and veteran presence on this team.
And if you still think Carmelo needs to retire. He has something to say to you
“Shut yo ass up.”
The above tweet came from the Pelicans broadcast the other day, which caught a Pelicans fan telling the Blazers forward that he needs to retire. Anthony clapped back.
Will Carmelo Anthony be an All-Star this season?
Probably not. Although, he did finish in the top 10 on the list for forwards this season. If he makes it as a reserve, it will be because of his legacy.
He has also surpassed Oscar Robertson in All-time scoring. In which, he is currently sitting in fourteenth on the list.
Without his production, the Blazers would not be where they are without Carmelo. The Blazers are currently sitting in fourth place in the crowded Western Conference without CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic.
