The Seattle Seahawks were hoping to win the Super Bowl this year but was the season a bust. The Seahawks defense came together and got on a roll late in the season, but that’s when the offense slumped.
The Seahawks just brought in Shane Waldron (previously with the LA RAMS) to replace Brian Schottenheimer as the offensive coordinator. So hopefully the slump will be fixed, but the Seahawks have three other needs that they need to fill before next season.
WHAT OTHER NEEDS DO THE SEAHAWKS NEED TO ADDRESS?
1- OFFENSIVE LINE
This has been one of the Seahawks’ needs for nine years now, and they’ve never addressed it enough to protect their star QB. Russell Wilson has expressed frustration with how many times he’s been sacked. If they don’t address this issue this season, will Wilson demand a trade?
But here are some ways that the Seahawks can address it:
- Joe Thuney – NE Patriots LG/T
Thuney has been the starting Left Guard for the New England Patriots since 2016. So he protected Tom Brady and is a member of many Super Bowl championship teams. He is now a free agent, projected to make about $15 million a year. That’s a lot for an offensive lineman. But if the Seahawks want to keep their QB happy they will go spend the money they need to on a good offensive line.
2. Corey Linsley – GB Packers C
Another Offensive lineman who has started on a team, with an elite offensive lineman. The 2020 NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers was under center with this man snapping the ball to him. He is a free agent now, projected to make about $8 million.
3. Draft good lineman
The Seahawks don’t have a pick for quite awhile. They could trade up or keep their later picks and draft somebody in the third round.
2- Secondary/Defensive Backs
The Seahawks were on pace to make history as one of the worst defenses in NFL History until they traded for Carlos Dunlap. But, they still need some help in the secondary. They had one of the worst secondary’s in the league. For most of the season, they were dealing with injuries but tightening up the secondary definitely would not be a bad thing. A good defensive back on the opposite side of Shaquill Griffin, would be very beneficial for the Seattle Seahawks.
Could the struggles of the defense be because of Defensive Coordinator Ken Norton Jr? Is it time for them to part ways? Do the Seahawks need a new Defensive Coordinator?
The Defensive Line could need another great player as well, and JJ Watt was just released. Would the Seahawks go get him?
The only spot that the Seahawks are really set on defense is at the Linebacker positions with Bobby Wagner, KJ Wright, and Jordyn Brooks. What can you say about Wagner and Wright? Well, they are at the top of the rankings for their positions. This season, Wagner, finished 7th in tackles with 138. While KJ was not able to hit 100 this season, he finished second on the team with 86. The rookie Brooks had a quietly good season, playing in 14 games, starting in six of them, and he had 57 tackles.
3 – Tight End
This is a position that the Seahawks tried to upgrade last year, but with Greg Olsen retiring, Luke Willson will be a free agent. Jacob Hollister is gone. And now, the Seahawks only have Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson. They need to bring in at least one more man here.
The most logical choice would be bring back Willson, and spend money on Offensive Lineman.
These are the three most important things that the Seahawks need to do, if they want to keep Wilson in Seattle.
