I Called It, Antonio Gibson Was a Fantasy Stud This Year

I would like to take this opportunity to address a piping-hot take that was made, by me, on the Vendetta Sports Media Fantasy Show early on in the season.

In my first ever appearance on the show, I felt that it was only fitting to make a blistering-hot take right off the bat:

With this particular take, I outlined Antonio Gibson as a candidate to become the leading running back on the Washington Football Team despite competing for snaps with Adrian Peterson, Bryce Love, and Peyton Barber. As the best fit for Scott Turner’s system, as well as great measurables for the position, Gibson seemed to be the most logical man for the job, in my eyes. Unfortunately, certain members of the Vendetta Sports family (Trey) did not agree with me.

Fast forward about five months. As it turns out, my hot take turned out to be true.

Appearing in 13 games, Gibson has rushed for 720 yards on 151 carries, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. I know what you must be thinking: “Cayne, those state aren’t terrible, but they’re not great either.”

Well, while Antonio Gibson’s stats may not look great at a glance, they become much more intriguing when you factor in the fact that he has managed to score 11 rushing touchdowns in those 13 games. Gibson is currently sitting at 5th place in rushing touchdowns (among running backs). This means that Gibson scored a solid 158 points this season, placing him 13th on the list of fantasy running backs this season.

While many fantasy owners would have focused on the likes of Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Dalvin Cook, or Run CMC, Gibson proved to be a viable fantasy running back this season, and would have been a steal given the fact that he wouldn’t have probably even sniff the first 15-20 rounds.

Who would have guessed that a 3rd-round rookie running back who plays for the Washington Football team would be ranked 13th in fantasy points this year?

Me. That’s who.
