Mike Vrabel Explains Why The Patriots Moved On From Joe Milton

The Patriots gave Joe Milton away for a dirty penny, and now we finally have an explanation on why they made the dumbest trade ever. New head coach Mike Vrabel did his best to try to explain why the Pats made this stupid trade.

“We felt like his reps were going to be decreased as we worked through the offseason,” Vrabel told reporters, per MassLive’s Karen Guregian. “We felt like, just like every other decision, we were going to do what’s best for the team, and that’s the decision we ultimately made. I’m excited to move forward with Drake (Maye) and Josh (Dobbs).”

Sorry, not sorry, but that genuinely makes zero sense. “Reps were going to decrease”? Explain to me how that’s true if he was going to return to the same role he had last year. What Vrabel said here is a lie. Luckily, a real report came out about what actually went on here.

Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal (via Bill Jones of CBS Sports Texas) claims Milton believes he’s a future starter in the NFL, and Vrabel didn’t want to have that in the locker room. Which, in my opinion, is absolutely ridiculous considering that it’s probably a great thing that Milton has competitive fire internally and an absolutely pathetic thing that Vrabel didn’t think he could handle that.

This entire thing screams dysfunction. I love what the Patriots did during the 2025 NFL Draft, but this Milton trade stinks to high heaven.
