Is Bryan Edwards The Raiders New #1?

With the injury to Tyrell Williams, there seems to be a lot of uncertainty in the Raiders Wide Receiving core. Let me rephrase; I think there’s uncertainty about what roles each receiver will have. Tyrell Williams was supposed to be the #1 guy in Las Vegas. With Williams out, the Raiders receiving core is young and inexperienced. Who’s to say that Bryan Edwards can’t step up and be the go-to guy for Las Vegas?

First, let’s look at the rest of the depth chart for the Raiders. I alluded to it in my training camp preview for the Raiders. Roster cuts are on the horizon, and with it comes uncertainty as the order of the depth chart is in question.

When Las Vegas selected Henry Ruggs III instead of CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jeudy, I was confused and annoyed. Ruggs, in my opinion, is not on the same level as Lamb and Jeudy, talent-wise. However, he is the fastest guy and could be a deep zone threat, something the Raiders lacked immensely. I could understand that. The picture became more apparent when the Raiders drafted Bryan Edwards. A bigger guy with speed and looks more formidable as a #1 guy.

For my Hunter Renfrow lovers, we know he’s a slot guy, and there’s no doubt about it. He could be a star in that aspect, who knows? After Renfrow, there’s the Zay Jones, who oozes potential but hasn’t blossomed yet. Behind Jones is Nelson Agholor. Agholor, who came to Les Vegas after five seasons with the Eagles, is coming off his worst season.

It doesn’t matter that he is a rookie; he has to be the every-down guy for the Raiders. There’s nobody that fits the role better. Derek Carr has already said that Edwards reminds him of Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. That’s huge praise for a rookie. It’s all set up for Bryan Edwards. The only question that remains is if he can rise to the challenge.
