As we all know, Derek Carr this season probably has the worst set of wide receivers and people to throw to in his career. With this being Derek Carr’s make-it or break-it season, this obviously isn’t good. But there is one promising receiver that seems to be on the right track to a great career, Hunter Renfrow.

Hunter Renfrow is a rookie from Clemson, who now plays for the Oakland Raiders. He started on the Raiders as a projected 3rd WR on the depth chart. He eventually earned his spot as the top WR. Coming into this season, Antonio Brown was given the 1st WR spot and well, we know what happened with his drama. Then the Raiders cut AB, giving Tyrell Williams the 1st WR spot. But as the season progressed, he hasn’t been as productive as #RaiderNation hoped him to be. On the other hand, though, Renfrow came into this season as a surprise. Now, he is arguably the number 1 receiver for Derek Carr this season.

Hunter Renfrow Stats

Now, Hunter Renfrow had to work for his starting spot, as he has had 3 starts for the whole season. Whilst Tyrell Williams had 11 starts. Hunter Renfrow also was out for 3 games after being injured during their game against the New York Jets with a rib injury. He has been targeted 62 times in twelve games. As Williams has been targeted 64 times in 13 games, as their 1st receiver. Hunter Renfrow has been targeted an average of 5.2 times a game while Williams has been targeted 4.9 times a game. Renfrow has 43 catches for 503 yards in those 12 games. Both of those numbers could have increased if he started at the beginning of the season and was not absent the 3 games in spite of his injury.

Hunter Renfrow has proven he can be the 1st WR for the Raiders, and to think he is only a rookie. He could be another Julian Edelman or Wes Welker type of possession receiver the Raiders need. Even if he doesn’t know who the QB might end up being. We may very well be watching a star in the making as his career progresses.
