Cade Stover 2024 NFL Draft Profile

Let’s talk about the man that Rich Eisen wanted to stick a finger in his ass over during the Combine. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, here you go. Otherwise, let’s talk about everything Cade Stover in this edition of the 2024 NFL Draft Profile series!

Speaking of the Combine, I thought it was an okay showing for Stover. It flashed a lot of who he is. Blocking won’t be an issue for him. Used to play a lot of linebacker and has no problem getting his hands dirty. Solid hands catcher who rans a 4.65. The Mansfield, Ohio native checks in at 6-foot-4, 247.

It took a while for Stover to get on the field with Ohio State. Has basically no production in 2019 and 2020 unless you want to count his stats on defense. 2021 he was still a hybrid player who played on both sides of the ball including special teams. 2022 and 2023 Stover finally started to emerge as a real tight end. 2022 Stover notched 36 receptions for 406 yards and five scores. Then followed that up the next year with 41 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns.

Stover was actually mentioned quite a bit during the Stock Report series. There have been a lot of total flame outs at the tight end position for guys Ohio State has sent to the NFL. Cade Stover feels a notch better than that. Maybe not physically but there is a different element to his game that feels more translateable to the NFL. It’s kinda like if Mike Vrabel back when he was playing truly just tried to master the position. Tough, can catch, crafty, and kinda mean.

He just has an added athleticism element on top of the gritty side. His dad Trevor played at Bowling Green as a tight end. Stover also has a basketball background having played in high school. Former four star recruit coming out of high school and was named Ohio’s Mr. Football and Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year. Bad athletes don’t accomplish that sort of thing.

I like Cade Stover quite a bit. Still very much a flier like all of these later round tight ends are. However, he has the make up to become exactly what Jake Ferguson has become with the Cowboys.
