Ravens Add Derrick Henry Via Free Agency

We knew it was over for Derrick Henry in Tennessee when the Titans added Tony Pollard in free agency. One day later, Henry has found his new home and he’s heading to Baltimore to pair up with Lamar Jackson. The former Heisman Trophy winner at Alabama has signed with the Ravens.

Adam Schefter at ESPN was the first to report the news. It’s a two year deal for Henry worth $16 million. It can become $20 million if certain incentives trigger. He’s guaranteed $9 million total on the deal.

Henry, 30, has 2,030 regular-season rushing attempts. The question is how much does King Henry have left? If there is still gas in the tank, this could be a big add. Henry has started to show his age last year. He averaged just 68.6 rushing yards per game which is by far a career worst since he’s been the starter with the Titans. Even in a down year, Henry still had 1,167 yards and averaged a solid 4.2 yards per carry.

How much of his struggles were a brutal offensive line in Tennessee and how much better can he play with the Ravens? Time will tell.

The Ravens also lost Gus Edwards in free agency (who signed with the Chargers). JK Dobbins is still in free agency. The backfield in Baltimore currently consists of Henry, Keaton Mitchell, and Justice Hill.

Henry’s life should be easier in Baltimore. I’m just skeptical that he will provide more than Gus Edwards did last year.
