Fantasy Football: Derrick Henry Lands With Ravens

This is going to be a fun one to talk about. Derrick Henry lands in Baltimore and the ripple effect that it’s going to have on fantasy football is fascinating. Let’s jump right in and talk about it.

The running back age curve is real and I think that’s the number one thing to be worried about here. We know that Henry isn’t in his prime anymore. It’s a matter of if he has enough juice in the tank to win you a fantasy league. I think it’s fair to question after last year. It was a career worst 4.2 yards per carry for Henry last year.

Are we sure he’s better than Gus Edwards right now? Edwards was RB14 last year and was way more efficient. Don’t forget, this is a new Ravens offense. The same Ravens offense that got blasted for not running the ball enough in the playoff loss to the Chiefs. This is the reality we live in. They think they can win a Super Bowl with Lamar Jackson airing it out 800 times a game. They can’t be it’s something to be mindful of when drafting for fantasy.

The crazy part is despite the down year he still finished as RB5. I have no idea how that’s possible. Don’t forget the offensive line in Tennessee is brutal. The former Alabama product now goes to a much better team where the game script should be in his favor way more.

Then we have the question of how many touchdowns will Lamar steal. This one is just impossible to know. Will Lamar steal the touchdowns or will they let Henry be the hammer on the goal line? I don’t think we’re going to have an answer on that one until it’s too late and we already see it play out.

I’m in on Henry for fantasy but I’m not willing to get into a bidding war. Henry should produce in terms of fantasy but I’m slightly nervous here. If I am lucky enough to land Henry for the price I want, I also have to make sure I leave the draft with Keaton Mitchell. It’s just how it has to be. The nightmare scenario exists where Mitchell is just so damn good that he eats into the workload and becomes more relevant. If you’re getting Henry, Mitchell has to be a must add.
