Justin Jefferson to New England? Colin Cowherd seems to think so
Colin Cowherd has become known for saying some pretty outlandish things. Whether it’s saying a dead QB(Dwayne Haskins) will never win a Super Bowl or just contradicting himself on a seemingly daily basis. The guy continues to lose more credibility, and we here at Vendetta just continue to rip into him.
But recently, Cowherd has come out with a potential trade the Vikings could make to move all the way up to the third pick in the draft. The only caveat is that the Vikings would have to part ways with their best player, Justin Jefferson.
Which should immediately make the desire to move from 11 to three a little less strong. In this trade, Colin has the Vikings sending over Jefferson and next year’s first in exchange for the Patriot’s third overall pick in this year’s draft. But is this actually a realistic trade that both sides would want to make?
Well, if you ask Boston Sports Media, the answer is 100% yes. Without a second thought, at least based on this clip released by NBC Sports Boston,
In that video, it’s not only made clear that this trade should be 100% accepted if offered. But also that the Patriots should then immediately sign Jefferson to an extension. It’s not difficult to see why that’s the case. Jefferson is a game-changer and would easily be the best receiver to put on that jersey since Randy Moss’ three-year stint.
It could go a long way in bringing in a top QB, which, in this case, can’t be addressed in the draft. This brings me to one of my main points on whether the Patriots themselves would want to do this. They very well could be banking on taking one of these top QBs and moving on from Mac Jones.
Which makes the possibility of this trade much less likely. But I suppose if the Patriots can’t/don’t want to go QB, it could benefit them to trade the pick away and bring in a player of Justin Jefferson’s caliber.
But now we get to the elephant in the room. Would the Vikings ever even entertain this idea? In short, I want to say heck no. But it’s all based on how much the Vikings end up wanting one of these QBs.
The desire to find the franchise QB has bit teams in the butt before, and it seems it could do the same to the Vikings here. It’s interesting to potentially be able to jumpstart a Super Bowl window by finding the right QB. I just don’t think it should come at the expense of your best player.
The other factor at play is what the Vikings are going to do with Kirk Cousins. If he is brought back, this entire rumor can be put to rest. But if Kirk isn’t brought back, the Vikings all of a sudden don’t have a true QB1. Killing any hope of making a serious run.
Justin Jefferson and this Vikings offense may be explosive. But it’s not enough to carry an offense with no real QB. There are really just a lot of moving parts at play here in terms of the likelihood of this trade.
Overall, I just don’t see this trade happening. It doesn’t make complete sense on either side and is based on numerous other things happening. It certainly isn’t the dumbest thing Colin Cowherd has ever said, though. Hey, maybe all our callouts are finally sorta getting to the guy.
