Nolan Patrick Retires From The NHL

We all saw this day coming after Nolan Patrick didn’t play last year. Now it’s officially official. The former Flyers and Golden Knights forward has announced his retirement. Patrick is hanging up the skates after battling with ongoing injuries.

The news was revealed in an Instagram post for The Power Play. The post lists Patrick as a retired player and now a mentor for the program. Take that as meaning that this has been a foregone conclusion. The media is just finding out about it now.

Patrick, 25, is calling it quits after the Flyers selected him with the 2nd overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. The Flyers ended up passing on Miro Heiskanen and Cale Makar in order to select Patrick. OUCH! Even worse, Patrick was included in a trade to acquire Ryan Ellis. The weird part is Ellis is also now medically retired.

Is It Time To Declare Nolan Patrick A Bust?

Patrick was still awarded a Stanley Cup ring by the Vegas Golden Knights despite not playing at all last year. It wasn’t enough to meet the requirements of having his name etched on the Stanley Cup, however. With Vegas, Patrick scored two goals and five assists during the 2021-22 campaign in 25 games.

A sad disappointing end to a career. One that was ravaged by multiple injuries. Still, at least Patrick made some money after being a high draft pick. Patrick will end his career with 32 goals and 45 assists for 77 points in 222 career contests. He also has two points in six playoff games.

There are some conflicting reports out there. It appears that Patrick isn’t officially retired but he’s also most likely never playing again and would prefer to stay under the radar. Tomato, tomato.
