Cameron Ward Expected To Enter Transfer Portal

Washington State quarterback Cameron Ward is expected to enter the transfer portal, Chris Hummer of 247 Sports first reported the news Friday.

Ward’s transfer is not imminent, as he explores the potential of declaring for the NFL Draft. If he does opt to transfer, he will be immediately eligible and will have one remaining year of eligibility.

It has also been reported that several schools have offered Ward NIL deals that will pay him north of $1 million. The potential for massive NIL earnings combined with the deterioration of the Pac-12 made Ward a prime transfer contender.

Ward has played well as the Cougars starting quarterback. In two seasons, he has combined for 6,968 passing yards, 48 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

The transfer portal has been quickly flooded with quarterback talent. The most notable names are Dante Moore, Riley Leonard, DJ Uiagalelei, Grayson McCall, and K.J. Jefferson. Ward will be one of the top available options and is an instant difference maker.

Ward’s decision will be impactful on the 2024 College Football Season and the following draft cycle. Most importantly, the team that lands Ward will be in a great position at quarterback. At the same time, if Ward impresses on the big stage, he could increase his draft stock.

As for Washington State, the Cougars will be in a tough position moving forward. The team disappointed in 2023, as they finished with a 5-7 record. For the foreseeable future, they will be one of the only members left in the Pac-12. It will be difficult to reach a high level under those circumstances. The loss of a starting quarterback only makes it more difficult.
