Colin Cowherd Roasted SI For Giving Deion Sanders ‘Sportsperson of the Year’

Sports Illustrated named Deion Sanders their “Sportsperson of the Year” Thursday. This was an interesting choice, as the Colorado hype train only lasted a few weeks before finishing 4-8. It seems like they are using one of the most popular names in sports, and Cowherd made some jokes about it.

“Sports Illustrated names Deion Sanders Sportsperson of the Year,” Cowherd said. “So all the Deion haters, they don’t like that at all. I just say, ‘First of all, it’s probably AI-generated. It probably wasn’t even written by a human.’ Or it’s the LIBERAL media.”

Cowherd took his shot at Sports Illustrated after news recently broke that they allegedly used AI to push content. Cowherd seemed a bit dumbfounded as to how Sanders won the award although he admitted that that his team was a “fascinating story.”

“Deion Sanders, in September, literally changed network television ratings,” Cowherd said. “Sports Illustrated – or one of their computers – wrote a story and selected him…the sportswriters who are people actually, voted Deion Sanders Sportsperson of the Year.”

Cowherd seems to believe that Sports Illustrated just chose him due to his fame. Maybe it was a way for them to create positive attention around themselves, but this AI scandal has become a pretty big deal.

An outlet of that size doing something like that would hurt credibility for a really long time.

Sports Illustrated is in shambles

“Sports Illustrated got busted the other day for AI articles, so maybe they lost a lot of their credibility to begin with,” Cowherd said. “You’re using fake people, it’s not great.”

Colin Cowherd seemed to take the funny but also serious approach when expressing his thoughts on this matter.

I also agree that picking Deion Sanders was solely based on how viral he became this year. While he’s made a huge impact at Colorado, it is hard to understand how a coach who went 4-8 won the award.
