Aaron Rodgers on Garrett Wilson: ‘You expect him to make some of these plays’

Aaron Rodgers is with a new team and appears to be already impressed with his teammates, already viewing his new wide receiver Garrett Wilson to a similar standard as his old teammate Davante Adams.

The Rodgers-Adams duo has combined for 687 catches, 8,427 receiving yards and 76 touchdowns in 125 combined regular season and playoff games together. Adams, who is now on the Las Vegas Raiders, split up with Rodgers prior to 2022 before the signal caller moved to the Big Apple.

“Davante is in a category by himself,” Rodgers said about Adams. “But (our) 17 reminds me of the other 17, as far as his ability to get out of breaks and his quick twitch at the line of scrimmage, for sure.”

Safe to say, we might be seeing this Rodgers-Wilson connection a lot this upcoming season.

Before training camp started, the two numbers 17s have been hand in hand with each other in comparison. Rodgers sees a lot coming out of the second-year receiver in Wilson.

Although the two are being compared, Wilson isn’t too ready to say that he is better than the two-time All-Pro receiver.

“He was my favorite receiver growing up,” Wilson said. “When you’re a young kid, you don’t really realize it, but you’re trying to steal something from everyone’s game, whether it’s OBJ or Davante or Stefon Diggs.

“I try to take a lot of things from what he [Adams] did well, but, man, he’s special. You can see the lab work that he puts in throughout the offseason. It’s special to watch. I’ve got a long way to go before I get to that point.”

Although Rodgers believes Wilson can be great, he believes the former Ohio State receiver can bulk up a little bit more.

“If he has five or 10 more pounds of muscle, he’s going to be really, really difficult to handle,” he said. “But in the meantime, he’s got all the skill set you want, plus the attitude and the work ethic and the character, which you really appreciate.

“Some of the plays out here, we’re not going to take for granted, but it’s also Garrett, so you expect him to make some of these plays.”

Last season, Wilson ended the season with 83 receptions for 1,103 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Now, with a four-time MVP throwing the ball to him, the NFL could be in trouble very soon.
