Von Erich Family biopic starring Zac Efron gets release date
The highly anticipated biopic in homage to the legendary Von Erich Family, starring Zac Efron, will hit theaters later this year.
Pro wrestling has many “royal families,” as children of those in the industry often follow in their parent’s footsteps. The Von Erichs were no different and at their height, four members were active in the industry. Today, only one Von Erich remains, Kevin Von Erich, who will be portrayed by Zac Efron.
Joining Zac Efron as the other Von Erich brothers, Jeremy Allen White will play Kerry, with Harris Dickinson as David. AEW World Champion MJF will portray Lance Von Erich – a kayfabe member of the family. Additionally, WWE star Dolph Ziggler will play Gino Hernandez and Chavo Guerrero Jr. will take up the role of The Iron Sheik.
According to Variety, the biopic will hit theaters on December 22, 2023. The tragic story of the Von Erichs is close to wrestling fans’ hearts, and as such Zac Efron’s portrayal will be held to a high standard. Kevin Von Erich sadly lost all of his brothers and father by 1997, making him the last of his siblings. Kerry, Mike, and Chris Von Erich all took their own lives in a span of seven years.
Zac Efron’s last film was 2022’s ‘The Greatest Beer Run Ever,’ where he notably played former marine John “Chickie” Donohue. The movie was also classified as a biopic, but critics largely panned the film. Hopefully for Efron, ‘The Iron Claw’ – the title of the Von Erich biopic – will turn out better than his last foray. Before this, fans will likely recall Zac Efron’s portrayal of infamous serial killer Ted Bundy in ‘Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.”
