Trevon Diggs Gets 5-Year Extension With Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys and two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs have agreed to a 5-year, $97 million extension, NFL.com insider Tom Pelissero first reported Tuesday.

Diggs is a ballhawk at the cornerback position, raking in 17 interceptions in his first three seasons. In 2021, he intercepted 11 passes with 21 passes defended and earned first-team All-Pro honors. Last season, Diggs had three interceptions, but broke up 14 passes and earned his second Pro Bowl selection.

The deal also includes a $21.25 million signing bonus and the deal can be worth up to $104 million with incentives. He is now the fourth-highest-paid cornerback in the NFL with the fifth-highest AAV. His extension isn’t expected to kick in until the 2024 season, as he carries a $4.8 million cap hit for the 2023 season, per Spotrac.

As the Cowboys set their sights on the upcoming season, securing Diggs for the long term undoubtedly brings great optimism and excitement. However, this new deal could stir some controversy.

Zack Martin, a cornerstone of the Dallas Cowboys offensive line, finds himself in an unexpected position as the team begins the new season without a contract extension in place. Despite his consistent excellence and vital role in the team’s success, the absence of a new deal has raised eyebrows among fans and analysts.

The Cowboys’ front office is well aware of Martin’s significance, and negotiations are likely ongoing. While the lack of a contract year raises questions, it is essential to recognize that such situations are not uncommon in the NFL.

Diggs’ contract will surely confuse a lot of fans and analysts as Martin continues to fight for a new deal. What do you think about his new extension? Let us know in the comments!
