Will Packers Retire Aaron Rodgers’ No. 12? Mark Murphy Weighs In

Are the Packers ever going to retire Aaron Rodgers’ number 12 jersey? That seems like more of a formality than anything. However, Packers CEO Mark Murphy weighed in on what that process will look like. After Rodgers was traded to the Jets, is there any bad blood on that front?

“He was one of the greatest players in the history of the Packers and we want to thank him for all he did during his remarkable, 18-year career,” Murphy said, via Matt Schneidman of TheAthletic.com. “He will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and we will bring him back and retire his number at the appropriate time.”

The Packers currently have six numbers retired. That list of players includes running back Tony Canadaeo, quarterback Brett Favre, wide receiver Don Hutson, quarterback Bart Starr, linebacker Ray Nitschke, and defensive end Reggie White. Rodgers would be the 7th to join that illustrious list.

2023 will be the first year under center for Jordan Love as a starting quarterback. We’re going to find out pretty quickly if Green Bay made a noob move getting Rodgers out of the building. I called Love one of the wildcards of that 2020 NFL Draft. The positive is that Green Bay did the right thing and gave Love proper time to develop. The former Utah State signal caller was not ready to play when he first entered the league. All eyes are going to be on Love as this organization tries to forget about the Rodgers’ days.

Conventional wisdom would suggest that Rodgers will get his jersey retired when he retires from the game.
