Dan Campbell Hopes Change Of Scenery Helps Denzel Mims
The Lions must see something in Denzel Mims or else they wouldn’t have traded for him. Dan Campbell spoke about the former Jets castoff. He thinks Mims could benefit from a change of scenery.
“He’s a guy that has tools,” Lions head coach Dan Campbell said on Sunday, via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. “He’s a big receiver and he has speed. He has length and kind of relative of looking at what do you want to work with, this guy has the ability and let’s see if we can do something.
“Let’s see if a change in scenery helps this guy. … It’s the traits. We know the kid will work. We’ve heard that. He has a level of toughness about him, so we’ll see where we can take it.”
Mims’ stock can’t get any lower so I guess that’s rational thinking. Mims, 25, has zero career touchdowns in 30 games. The former 2020 second round pick out of Baylor has notched 42 receptions for 676 yards thus far during his brief NFL career. That’s irrelevant damage. The Lions clearly believe there is more in the tank here.
People that read this site have known about my thoughts on Mims for a long time. I never liked him as a prospect coming into the NFL. In Detroit, Mims will battle with Josh Reynolds for playing time in that WR3 role. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Marvin Jones are locked into the starting spots heading into the season.
