Pat McAfee had a powerful opening monologue for the ESPYs award show last night. Part of that power was in ripping into Skip Bayless for his senseless tweet about Damar Hamlin following his collapse in January. It ran a little like a standup comedy routine for a moment, but Pat handled it very well.
The Bills safety was also in attendance at the show, and will likely play next season after being cleared in April.
As Pat touched upon, the infamous Tweet is still up. For those of you that understand the term “ratio,” it is unheard of. With 43.3 thousand likes, it has 82.4 thousand retweets/quotes and a whopping 104.5 thousand comments. Again, the most sensical thing to do is admit you were wrong and delete it. He did apologize but, as you can see below, that still is not the case:
No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how? This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.
— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) January 3, 2023
He also went on to highlight the Bills’ training staff and their remarkable efforts to prevent the worst from happening and called Hamlin an “absolute dawg” before closing it off by calling the tweet insensitive.
Damar Hamlin is an ABSOLUTE DAWG..

That tweet is still up Skip pic.twitter.com/l0DWmlC5j4
The former punter signed an $85 million contract with ESPN and is now one of their biggest personalities, along with the likes of Stephen A. Smith and others. While some thought he had the ability to grow even bigger, it’s not terrible to cash in for a great payday.
The Plum, Penn., native made more headlines during his monologue. McAfee spoke on the infamous lawsuit surrounding Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre and Bayless’ former Undisputed partner Shannon Sharpe. One reason Sharpe left could very well be the Damar Hamlin situation and Skip’s awful handling of the fallout.
Pat McAfee rightfully put Skip Bayless in his place and saluted Damar Hamlin at the ESPYs. It was a bright spot for everyone to see.
