The Kyrie Irving free agency hiatus is finally over. The veteran point guard signs a three-year $126 million deal to stay with the Dallas Mavericks. Irving will stay with his partner in crime, Luka Doncic, after a short stint with him last season. As a part of Irving’s contract, he will be granted a player option in the third season of the deal. Shams Charania reports of the news.
After a long ongoing process with the veteran point guard, the Dallas Mavericks have finally signed the Kyrie Irving.
Irving has been on four teams so far in his career and has gone out in a blaze of glory in each one. Irving, known for his antics off the court, has forced himself out of any situation he doesn’t want to be in for his entire career. This includes the Brooklyn Nets, Boston Celtics, and even now the Dallas Mavericks. Aside from that, Irving is a phenomenal player. The former Duka Blue Devil has averaged 27 points per game in the last five seasons, including 27 for the Mavericks last season. Outside of scoring, Irving averaged five rebounds and six assists with the Mavericks and Nets last season, as well as having some of the best shooting numbers of his career. Irving shot 51% from the field last season, the highest of his career, and almost 40% from three.
Last season, Irving demanded a trade away from the Brooklyn Nets after a short-lived time with the Nets. He spent around three and a half seasons with the Nets in hopes of another championship, but with chemistry issues and lack of depth, the super team failed.
Now, Irving is back in Dallas, Texas with Doncic in hopes of teaming up for three more seasons to win an NBA championship. Can Irving do it with the Mavericks?
