Sharks Cut Mackenzie Blackwood Days After Trading For Him

Remember when I said this about Mike Grier after the Mackenzie Blackwood trade and delusional Erik Karlsson comments? After you learn this piece of information, is anybody willing to argue against it?

Wait until you hear this cheese…

Are you sitting down?

Are you sure?

Okay, here we go.

Three days after trading for Mackenzie Blackwood, the San Jose Sharks are waiving him. Not even joking. The team reported the news. Fabian Zetterlund and Martin Kaut were given qualifying offers in case you were curious.

I should add that we have two important pieces of information to follow up with. Frank Seravalli is saying the Sharks and Blackwood have not seen eye to eye on an extension. Elliotte Friedman also added that San Jose is still trying to extend him.

With that said, does it really matter? All you have to do is click the embed above. Grier made a rookie mistake and gift wrapped a free draft pick to New Jersey. Grier got played and there is no other way to put it. Tom Fitzgerald got a strap on out and did whatever he wanted to Grier. It’s not the first time either. The Timo Meier trade was highway robbery.

This is just such an embarrassing look for the franchise. The $3.36 million qualifying offer was always going to be a problem in negotiations. How Grier didn’t see that coming is Looney Tunes. What a bum of a GM. The Sharks hired the wrong guy. Sorry, not sorry.

UPDATE:

Blackwood has re-signed with the Sharks. Twitter is down but Frank Seravalli on Daily Faceoff Live is saying the deal is for two years at $2.5 million per year. The trade makes more sense now but there is no question the Sharks had to buck up more than they would have liked to.
