Manchester United Fans Set To Protest The Glazers Yet Again

The name Glazer has to be considered the most hated in Manchester, one that has been despised by the United faithful ever since the Glazer family took control of the club in 2005. Their leadership of England’s most storied club has been marred by constant controversy and protests from fans.

Now, as the Glazers look to sell the club, the fans are planning yet another protest to show their discontent with their owners.

The Protest

The Manchester United Supporters Trust is planning the demonstration for Tuesday. It will happen outside of Old Trafford’s megastore and coincide with the release of the club’s new Adidas uniforms for the 2023-24 season.

The protest will focus on the prolonged sales process which has now lasted eight months.

The most recent large-scale protest at the club happened in 2021 when United was announced as a founding member of the European Super League. A match between the United and Liverpool was postponed after around 100 fans invaded the pitch.

The protest worked, and United later backed out of the Super League. Fans will be hopeful that this demonstration yields similar results.

The Bids

The Glazers are currently entertaining two bids to purchase the club. The first comes from the Qatari delegation led by businessman Sheikh Jassim. The second bid comes from British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe. It is thought that the Glazers would be willing to part with the club for around £6 billion.

The final bidding was supposed to have ended in April. However, the Glazers have still not accepted a bid, and the club’s future is uncertain.

Uncertain Future

This has impacted manager Erik ten Hag’s ability to secure new signings this summer. After a good first season with the club, ten Hag was looking to strengthen his squad this summer to compete with cross-town rivals Manchester City.

However, with the club’s future in the air, ten Hag does not have the transfer funds he needs to compete for high-value targets.

This and the lack of clarity over the future of the club has anger United fans. They are hoping this protest will make their voices heard and pressure the Glazers into finally selling.

“The overwhelming majority of United fans want to see a conclusion to this protracted sale process with the majority supporting a full sale, at least based on our soundings,” the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust said in a social media post. “Protest planned on Tuesday to make that message clear.”

Hopefully for United fans, this demonstration is effective and the Glazers finally cash out and end their unwelcomed stay in Manchester.

However, the longer this process goes on, the more likely the Glazers will retain control of the club.
