The 49ers Owe Ran Carthon A Gift Basket

Shout-out to Ran Carthon. If you had told young Trey that Carthon, a former running back at the University of Florida, would have become an NFL general manager, I’m not sure I would have believed you. Mostly because I’m not sure you give the keys to a running back to run your team only to watch him take Bijan Robinson with the 8th pick in the draft, but that’s a story for another day.

The story today is about the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers owe Carthon more than just a shout-out.

Gift basket?

Bouquet of flowers?

All-inclusive paid vacation?

Box of chocolates?

I’m not sure it really matters. What’s important is that the 49ers need to throw this guy a bone because he really helped their season.

Let me set the stage for you if you don’t know what I’m talking about:

The Falcons hired Carthon to become their general manager. Because of the dumbest rule in the NFL, the 49ers received a third round comp pick because the Falcons hired him away. The 49ers sent that pick in the trade to Washington to acquire Chase Young.

Yes, you’re reading that correctly. Because Carthon used to work for the team, San Francisco got Chase Young for free. If this trade swings the balance of power in terms of deciding the Super Bowl, Carthon deserves a ring and a trip to the parade.

Side note: I love the fact that the 49ers believe the answer to all of their problems is another defensive lineman. That dude is going to cause havoc. He’s never had a guy like Joey Bosa be his teammate and the Ohio State factor helps. Young is really going to help them. Let’s just also not forget about the guy that made it happen.

49er fans should be sending Carthon thank you letters. That’s the reality.
