343 Industries refutes reports they are not making Halo anymore
343 Industries, current developers of the popular sci-fi video game series Halo, have released an official statement denying rumors that the studio would no longer be working on the franchise. The rumors began when a supposed leak revealed that the studio would be “taking a backseat” for future games, with development being handed off to third-party developers.
Rebuttal and Rumors
On Jan. 21, the official Halo Twitter account posted a response to the rumors. Studio head Pierre Hintze announced that, “343 Industries will continue to develop Halo now and in the future…”
However, the studio’s future is still uncertain. Between fan and consumer response to 343’s decisions regarding Halo Infinite, to 343’s parent company Microsoft laying off thousands of employees, including many in 343, things are looking rough for the future of the development team.
What Comes Next
For now, it seems 343 has decided to take a stand regarding its relevancy. Plus, with Microsoft so far staying silent on the matter, the rumors that 343 is going to be replaced may just be that: rumors.
Still, growing economic downturn, continuing criticism for the aforementioned decisions and plans, and now a smaller workforce, the likelihood of things getting any better for the studio responsible for Xbox’s flagship franchise anytime soon is low.
