2024 NFL Draft Stock Report: Alamo Bowl

I have one more Bowl game post for you today. I already did three of them today including the Fenway Bowl (link), Pinstripe Bowl (link), and the Pop Tart Bowl (link). The 2024 NFL Draft Stock Report series rolls along with a recap of the Valero Alamo Bowl. Let’s not waste any time and review what you need to know about Oklahoma and Arizona.

Oklahoma

I’ll be honest; I’m here for Jackson Arnold. He won the Elite 11 Camp his recruiting class and basically forced Dillon Gabriel out the door. What was the new Sooners signal caller going to look like during his first start.

I’m not going to hit the panic button yet but that was bad. You can see the game is way too fast for him right now. Two awful interceptions. Don’t see a rocket arm. Fine arm but not rocket. Feet are very panicky. Has rushing ability. Not overly big. Bit stiff but jumpy.

The positive is he got better as the game went on. He couldn’t have been worse to start the game. Guy opens up the second half and immediately drops this bomb for a touchdown. Maybe the nerves got the best of him. Can’t hold too much weight in two bad series, right?

The third pick he threw at the end of the third quarter wasn’t on him. Drop that tipped in the air for a pick-six. The 4th one was for sure on him.

I don’t love the running back Gavin Sawchuk. I don’t care what the numbers say. He’s not good. Don’t fall for it. This is what Big 12 football looks like. It was a rocky mess but I guess that’s what freshmen do. Total turnover machine not even including a sack fumble where he held onto the ball way too long. Let’s take this as a weird first impression and go from there.

Oklahoma won’t have many names in the 2024 NFL Draft. I don’t see how. Who are they? They have some intriguing receivers but none are special. Nic Anderson had seven receptions for 73 yards and a score. That’s a 6-foot-4 freshman building block. Jalil Farooq fumbled the ball twice. He’s a classic JAG. Can Drake Stoops be anything?

The defense is still a work in progress. They’re recruiting better but don’t have the vets on that side of the ball. Brent Venables doesn’t have a finished product here yet and it’s obvious.

Arizona

Arizona deserves some credit. This is a hell of a program that Jed Fisch has built. The Noah Fifita quarterback they have is a serious baller. Just has that gamer vibe to him. I have no idea what he is right now. On the smaller side and feels like a run around guy. Still impressive that he was able to win this many games with Arizona. A solid first season as a starter. We’ll see if he can build on it next year.

There really isn’t much to talk about. It’s not like this team is filled with NFL Draft prospects. It’s just not. Not much to say unless you want me to make something up.
