Dillon Gabriel Enters Transfer Portal
Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel has entered the transfer portal, Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports was the first to report the news Monday.
The transfer portal is currently filled with an absurd amount of quarterback talent. Gabriel will be one of the top options available.
In 2023, Gabriel finished with 3,660 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions, completing 69.3 percent of his attempts, helping Oklahoma finish 10-2 while earning a win massive win over Texas.
Gabriel started his college career at UCF, but transferred to Oklahoma after three seasons and started two seasons in Norman. In his two stops, Gabriel started 50 games, which makes him one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the portal.
Gabriel will have one year of remaining eligibility once he transfers.
He will be an immediate difference-maker for a program in need of a quarterback. The mix of signal callers heading to the NFL or transfer portal has left a lot of teams needing one, which is a positive for Gabriel as he looks for his new home.
One important note is that Gabriel did not mention the NFL. Previously, we have seen players like Cameron Ward and DJ Uiagalelei state they want to keep their NFL prospects open. Gabriel did not make the same statement.
Oklahoma will certainly miss Gabriel, but the Sooners are in a position to rebound. In the 2023 recruiting class, Oklahoma landed five-star recruit Jackson Arnold. Arnold was the No. 8 player nationally and No. 4 quarterback in the 247 Sports Composite Rankings. Furthermore, Oklahoma is an appealing transfer portal option if that is the route Oklahoma opts to take.
