2024 NFL Draft Stock Report: Pinstripe Bowl

Yes, we’re covering the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl. It’s Bowl szn and just because players are opting out doesn’t mean there aren’t things to learn. That’s what the 2024 NFL Draft Stock Report series is all about. Let’s talk about some Rutgers and Miami football.

The rain wasn’t as bad as it was in the Fenway Bowl, but you could tell it was building as the game went on. It was mostly a mist that became slightly more aggressive. Just something to keep in mind as we go through the notes.

I wasn’t surprised that Rutgers won the game. It was basically a home game and they absolutely punched the Canes in the mouth from the start.

Rutgers

I absolutely love Kyle Monangai. I’ve actually mentioned him in previous posts. I’ve been in so much that I randomly bolded his name in several posts. Gus Edwards made it out of Rutgers. Why can’t this dude? Tell you what. It’s not that bad of a comp. Big body 5-foot-9, 210, and runs hard. Finished the game with 25 carries for 165 yards and a score. Could have been another but it got snipped by a tush push. How many times was Monangai wrapped up and somehow broke through tackles for extra yardage? Felt like every time.

He’s leading the Big 10 in rushing. The Big 10. I’m telling you he’s good. This is while going against a Mario Cristobal team and all that guy cares about is scrimmage play. I get why he’s coming back to school but he should declare. It’s on the teams to figure out he’s good. I’d draft him. Only going to lose value with more wear and tear, not?

I assume Mohamed Toure gets number one for a reason. Had some jolt of lightning to him. Can tell he’s a bit of a lunatic too in a good way. Apparently, his nickname is the menace. That fits. Might be a toy in pass rush situations.

Miami

Get ready for a name tongue twister. Colbie Young is transferring to Georgia. Jacolby George is now in line to pick up some of the targets. They’re both like the same size too and look the same on TV. I know, boring.

Well, that’s not so much the case after the game. When you dive deeper, it sure seems like Young, the one going to Georgia, is the better player. Screw the production (George has more yards). George had got open on a deep ball early in the game and totally dropped it. That was about as bad of a game as I’ve ever seen from a receiver. Two egregious penalties. Fumbled a reverse and then ran backward 20 yards. Only to be saved by the refs. Did basically nothing in the game. Two catches for 13 yards of nothing. Just looked awful.

Xavier Restrepo might be underrated. Not small. Really big production this year. Showed an outstanding catch radius early in the game. Hands look solid. Can run. I honestly have no idea what the expectations are. I’ve seen Miami this but not maybe enough. I mean, is it outrageous to say there was some refined Braxton Berrios? Is that supposed to be viewed as offensive? I mean he is a slot receiver, right? Commanded the targets in the offense. Finished the game with 10 receptions for 94 yards and a score.

We got our first real taste of Jaccuri Brown today. Not sure what’s going on at quarterback here but this looks like a total upgrade. Tyler Van Dyke didn’t have a terrible arm but this arm looks better. Plus, this guy doesn’t look dead from the knees down. I’m not sure he has any idea what he’s doing throwing the ball but you can tell there are tools here to at least build upon. It’s all one read and then run but there’s not nothing here. If you can get Cam Ward in the portal then they should still do that.

Not sure I love Henry Parish. Former Ole Miss transfer. I get why he didn’t play there but there should have been a role for his style. He’s a pure sledgehammer with absolutely zero plan to ever adjust or cut. It is what it is. I guess you need one of them, I don’t know. I just don’t see anything that should be deemed as special. Ulysses Bentley looks way better than him.
