2023 NFL Draft War Room: San Francisco 49ers
No draft picks, no problem? That’s what the 49ers are basically going to have to navigate through when it comes to the 2023 NFL Draft. How can John Lynch try to improve this 49ers team with limited capital? That’s what we’re here to do with the War Room series so let’s get right into it.
- Round 3, Pick 99 (compensatory)
- Round 3, Pick 101 (compensatory)
- Round 3, Pick 102 (compensatory)
- Round 5, Pick 155 (via Miami Dolphins)
- Round 5, Pick 164
- Round 5, Pick 173 (compensatory)
- Round 6, Pick 216 (compensatory)
- Round 7, Pick 222 (via Denver Broncos)
- Round 7, Pick 247
- Round 7, Pick 253 (compensatory)
- Round 7, Pick 255 (compensatory)
As you can see the 49ers got bailed out big time by the comp picks. They got extra picks for having minority candidates hired away from their team (Most notably Demeco Ryans). Still not sure it’s a rule that makes sense but that’s a story for another day. Regardless, I’m glad the comp pick system is in place because teams should be rewarded for losing free agents. It’s a thank you letter from the NFL for drafting well essentially.
For this video we just stood pat and made three picks in the third round. I hate having it be that straightforward forward but I’m sure the goal here is to find three contributors. Flip a few picks toward 2024 and then keep it moving. Do the compile a few of them to move up for one bigger name? Maybe it makes sense to do given the strength of the roster. All of that stuff remains to be seen.
Short breakdown but when you only have depth picks, what else is there to really go over?
