2022 NFL Scouting Combine: Linebacker Notes

The 2022 NFL Scouting Combine is on the home stretch. It looked for a minute that we were in danger of even getting a combine this year. That was before the NFL decided to cancel on their stupid bubble idea.

The third day of the combine includes the defensive line, edge rushers, and linebackers. Can you tell I’m tired yet? Let’s get through the stand up linebacker notes!

*Nakobe Dean did not work out. Still my top guy. Problem is, I still don’t really know who the best Georgia linebacker is and you’re not getting Dean for cheap.

Question Marks

Two guys belong in this category. Let’s start with Devin Lloyd. We have to be honest. That was a bad workout. Not fluid at all. Gets to his spot but way better downhill. No natural knee bender. Underwhelming pure athlete. Eyes down in drills. Not elite athlete. Looked better knowing he was in coverage compared to drills. Hands were there. Decent rush moves. 4.66 40 time is fine but down compared to the rest of the group.

The other is Chad Muma. Very up and down day. Started off strong and ended poorly. Good bench number (27) shows strong work ethic. Awesome change of direction. Explodes off the plant foot. Hands attached to body. Worker. Not natural rusher. 40 inch vert is great.

AWFUL in coverage drills. I mean awful. Stumbling, falling, having to start over. It got ugly. Good luck.

Fast

Hey, how bout this Anderson from Montana State? 4.42 is a great time. Fast mover too. Really good in space. Not super twitchy but really good day.

Downhill Thumpers

Zakoby McClain lives in this category. Downhill thumper. Heel clicking. Narrow feet. Doesn’t cover ground. Just not an athlete. Good on the rush drills. Body catcher.

Georgia

Quay Walker

So smooth. Eyes up during drills. Can open up. Good rushing. One drop. He goes, man. 4.52 is good.

Channing Tindall

God, I love Channing Tindall. Stays low to the ground. Covers ground. Really quick feet. 4.47 is a hell of a time. Really quick feet. 42 inch vert. Gazelle. Love.

Studs

Good day for Damone Clark. Power strider. Good mover. Looks rangy. Quick feet. Soft punch in pass rushing. Just good in space. Like him.

Christian Harris blew the doors off the workout. Light on his feet. Really quick. Looked prepared. Keeps the feet moving. Great hips. Easy hands. Total stud. Extra springy.

D’Marco Jackson went right after Harris in the drills. If he wasn’t following up a stud, he would have looked way better. Can accelerate. Good hip turn. Positive play speed. Smooth. Can catch. Solid day.

Overall good day for Nephi Sewell. Some burst. Kinda drifter and out of control. Has some athlete in him.

Kinda the same for Brandon Smith. You can tell there is athlete there. Fast mover. Some heel clicks but good for the most part.

Duds

Out on Darrian Beavers. No 40. Really wide base. Not fast or quick. Not bendy. Looks very try hard but not talented.

Terrel Bernard also stinks. Stuck in the mud. Also did not run. Guessing on the drills. Looks fasty but not bendy. Not covering ground. The story remains the same for all these Baylor guys. Good track guys. Bad football players. At least not NFL players.

Leo Chenal is a no. Bad stops and starts. Can’t chain moves. Bad hands. No upside here.

Yikes. That’s JoJo Domann. Falling over on the back pedal. On his heels. Lacks flexibility. Later face planted. Just bad.

Isaiah Graham-Mobley looks like he’s sliding. Fine in space. Stuck in the mud. Looked tight.

No thanks on Jack Sanborn. Slow feet. Not an athlete. You can see he doesn’t even trust himself when he’s doing these drills.

Other

Brian Asamoah total heel clicker. Really narrow. Suffered a drop. Kinda quick. So so.

Chance Campbell looked okay. Decent knee bend. Can get to his spot. Eye level down. Some good jump numbers. Maybe not super instinctive.

Up and down for Jeremiah Moon. Really heavy feet. Brutal on bag drills. Eyes way down. Good around corner. Nice rip move. Actually moving good in coverage. What’s going on here?

Nothing to write home about for Josh Ross. Just really bad hands. I mean really bad.

Vendetta’s Top 5 Linebackers:

1. Nakobe Dean (Georgia)

2. Christian Harris (Alabama)

3. Channing Tindall (Georgia)

4. Quay Walker (Georgia)

5. Devin Lloyd (Utah)
