2022 Fantasy Hockey Goalie Sleepers

The site had its first-ever fantasy hockey draft last night. The goalies are the hardest thing to get right in fantasy because you need one that rocks but also to where they’re good enough so you don’t have to overdraft them. Because at the end of the day, is it worth having Igor Shesterkin over Cale Makar? My answer would be no. Without wasting more time, here are my favorite 2022 Fantasy Hockey goalie sleepers.

*ESPN Rankings For Reference:

*For this exercise, I am only using players ranked outside the top 100.

Jordan Binnington (St. Louis Blues) G12, Overall 116

Sign me up for the Jordan Binnington bounce-back year. Feel like he has something to prove. Feels hot coming off a really nice showing in the playoffs. Ville Husso is gone. I’m just saying. I have challenged ESPN on this one. I think goalie 12 is way too low on a Blues team that should at minimum make the playoffs again. Also, the backup here is Thomas Greiss who blows. He’s not an option.

Thatcher Demko (Vancouver Canucks) G13, Overall 130

Thatcher Demko is good. Total workhorse. 61 starts last year. They have no real backup again this year. A .915 SV% is more than respectable. The Canucks are being slept on a tad. They’re not world beaters but Bruce Boudreau had this team buzzing after he took over (32-15-10). I think ESPN might be underrating the Canucks win total possibility. Especially with the number of starts Demko is going to get.

Pavel Francouz (Colorado Avalanche) G22, Overall 208

The Colorado Avalanche are the best team in the NHL. It’s just the way it is. Wins are the single most important thing for a goalie. If you don’t get them at a high rate, that goalie may as well be set on fire for fantasy purposes. Pavel Francouz is good. Just hasn’t always been healthy or consistent. I prefer Francouz but understand if you go in the other direction.

Alexandar Georgiev (Colorado Avalanche) G26, Overall 252

See above. ^

Logan Thompson (Vegas Golden Knights) G30, Outside Top 300

I believe in Logan Thompson. My eyeballs tell me he competes his tail off. Vegas will have a bounce back season after the year of hell along with Jack Eichel getting fully up to 100%. The wins will be there. Thompson is just way better than Aidan Hill and or Laurent Brossoit. This is his net. You can believe it or not believe it. Also, the team defense will be better this year. There are a lot of goalies that have performed well under Bruce Cassidy. He’s also a lefty and young enough to where a lot of teams haven’t figured out to attack him. This is the time to pounce.

Jonathan Quick (Los Angeles Kings) G42, Outside Top 300

The LA Kings are good. It’s a blend of core vets and a young group ready to strike. Plus, the addition of Kevin Fiala only adds fuel to a team coming off a playoff birth. I know Cal Petersen is ranked higher, but I prefer Quick. Maybe Cal Petersen just is okay. Being younger doesn’t necessarily make you better. Quick is a big time goalie and still has juice in the tank. I love grabbing this tandem late in drafts this year.
