We made it. After a long offseason, college football is officially back! (Sorry to those who were excited for Week 0, but I hardly count that as the start of the season). Vendetta Sports Media brings you a new series for your viewing and reading pleasure, the games of the week for the 2022 college football season. We will be breaking down and highlighting the games that are can’t miss TV. Every Thursday, I will bring you five games that are worth keeping an eye on. With that being said, let’s dive right into it!
We start our list of best games of the week with the debut of Brian Kelly at LSU. Kelly left Notre Dame this offseason after spending 11 years with the program. All eyes should be on the 60-year-old as he faces his first test in Florida State. LSU is in full rebuild mode, but with some nice building blocks in place, how will the new look Tigers fair under Kelly?
For Utah, this matchup might be one of the biggest openers in program history as the Utes begin their quest to rock the boat with a College Football Playoff appearance. SEC speed is legit, and if Utah wants to put a stamp on the start of their season, they must be prepared for a track meet. There will also be a lot of eyes on Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson — who has garnered a lot of hype this offseason — with many hoping to see the improvements in his game.
This game has two stories being told. One is of Cincinnati, the team that famously shocked the world and snuck into the CFP last year, only to be defeated by Alabama in the Cotton Bowl. After losing a bunch of starters on both sides of the ball, the Bearcats will be looking to show the country they were not a one-hit wonder and can find success yet again. But it won’t be easy. The other story being told is that of an Arkansas team that was a shock of their own last year, notably beating Texas and winning nine games last season. Can the Razorbacks build off a successful 2021 and make a push for an SEC title?
Good lord, that line seems massive.
The defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs start off on their journey to repeat as champs against the Ducks. Georgia is also looking to play spoiler for new Oregon head coach Dan Lanning, the former DC for those very Bulldogs. Lanning is hoping to bring some of that SEC toughness out west and has a new quarterback in Bo Nix from Auburn to lead his offense. Will the Bulldogs start off the road to another title with a win, or can the Ducks pull off the stunner?
Another huge line here.
Our game of the week takes place between a pair of top-five teams in the Horseshoe, what more could you ask for? The Sept. 3 tilt between Notre Dame and Ohio State has MASSIVE postseason implications. Ohio State is notorious for dropping big-time home openers — look no further than Texas in 2005, USC in 2009, Michigan State in 2015, Oklahoma in 2017, and Oregon in 2021. Will they suffer the same fate Saturday against new Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish?
