The NFC West is going to be a dog fight all year. The 49ers, Cardinals, Rams, and Seahawks are all really good teams. The 2021 NFL Draft could be a turning point in the difference between first and last. It’s going to be that competitive. Let’s hand out some draft grades. Who are the real winners and losers in the NFC West?
R1 (3): QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State
R2 (48): G Aaron Banks, Notre Dame
R3 (88): RB Trey Sermon, Ohio State
R3 (102): CB Ambry Thomas, Michigan
R5 (155): OT Jaylon Moore, Western Michigan
R5 (172): CB Deommodore Lenoir, Oregon
R5 (180): S Talanoa Hufanga, USC
R6 (194): RB Elijah Mitchell, Louisiana
I really am not 100 percent certain what to make of Trey Lance. He just doesn’t have a lot of experience. The tools are off the charts. I’ll trust Kyle Shanahan knows what he’s doing. He will make sure Lance won’t fail.
I thought the rest of the draft was really underwhelming. Aaron Banks is fine. They picked some corners that should at least contribute. I thought their best late round pick was Talanoa Hufanga. That guy is a lowkey beast. Trey Sermon was also a solid pick. Hard to not be blown away by his late season performance.
R1 (16): LB Zaven Collins, Tulsa
R2 (49): WR Rondale Moore, Purdue
R4 (136): CB Marco Wilson, Florida
R6 (210): EDGE Victor Dimukeje, Duke
R6 (223): CB Tay Gowan, UCF
R7 (243): S James Wiggins, Cincinnati
R7 (247): C Michal Menet, Penn State
Yeah, I don’t love this draft. I thought Zaven Collins was a reach. Not sure this puppy works. 275 pound middle linebacker? Doesn’t sound like today’s NFL. Good luck there. Taking a Tulsa linebacker with the 16th pick in the draft doesn’t feel great.
Four of these draft picks came in the 6th and 7th round. They’re total fliers. The shoe thrower Marco Wilson should be able to hold down a nickel spot. Everybody knows I’m in love with Rondale Moore. Still, there’s not much here besides that.
R2 (57): WR Tutu Atwell, Louisville
R3 (103): LB Ernest Jones, South Carolina
R4 (117): DI Bobby Brown III, Texas A&M
R4 (130): CB Robert Rochell, Central Arkansas
R4 (141): WR Jacob Harris, UCF
R5 (174): EDGE Earnest Brown IV, Northwestern
R7 (233): RB Jake Funk, Maryland
This draft sucks. There are no other words for it. The ONLY saving grace is their first round pick netted them Jalen Ramsey. Besides that, this is FUCKING AWFUL.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
This draft makes no sense. ZERO. The Rams have Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, DeSean Jackson, and Van Jefferson. Keep in mind, you already have limited draft resources by making the Ramsey and Matthew Stafford trades.
The Rams decide to take THREE wide receivers. Really no chance all of them make the roster. Dumb. Bone headed. Stupid. Not logical.
Tutu Atwell weighs 120 and is lucky if he turns into Tavon Austin. The 7th round pick was also a waste. You have running backs, you morons.
This draft sucks. The Rams should be ashamed. In a competitive division like this, LA blew it.
R2 (56): WR D’Wayne Eskridge, Western Michigan
R4 (137): CB Tre Brown, Oklahoma
R6 (208) OT Stone Forsythe, Florida
The Jamal Adams trade was a joke. Seattle gave away their picks like candy. Giving them anything higher than an F would be just lying. Three players and odds are two max will hit. Automatic F. Tre Brown kinda stinks too. He’s a total mess.
Look, the Eskridge thing is fine, I guess. Not sure wide receiver was the need here but I think the guy can play. Not sure how they will use him but whatever.
