2020 NFL Draft War Room: Detroit Lions

2020 NFL Draft
I still can’t believe the Lions were dumb enough to draft TJ Hockenson 8th overall. Will the 2020 NFL Draft be a turning point for Detroit? It’s war room time! (Christopher Hanewinckel/USA TODAY Sports)

The Detroit Lions finished the 2019 season with a record of 3-12-1 which is good enough to land the 3rd pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Lions season went down the toilet after Matthew Stafford got hurt. Things got interesting when some Stafford trade rumors got hot. Then things have cooled down and the Lions look like a prime trade down slot for a QB needy team. Let’s break it all down in the Detroit Lions 2020 NFL Draft War Room!

The Lions have 9 picks in this draft. The two extra ones coming via Philadelphia in the Darius Slay trade. Detroit can really collect some draft ammo by trading out of this 3rd spot. Even if they only move down two spots with Miami, it would benefit them greatly.

Having said that, I think Jeff Okudah is the man they want. The Darius Slay trade was easy for them because they’re just going to take Okudah. I think he’s pretty can’t miss. Okudah was a stud all year for Ohio State and teams really just stopped throwing the ball in his direction. Add him to Desmond Trufant and it’s like Darius Slay never left.

I’ve used this name a lot but Julian Okwara has to be a player the Lions are interested in. His brother Romeo is already on the team. Okwara can play that hybrid pass rusher role for the Lions. Julian Okwara showed he can be a sack artist at the college level. Boy, does Detroit need that.

I’ll throw one more nugget in here. Will the Lions end up trading for Julian Edelman? It’s a thought with the Patriots taking a step back. If not, maybe they draft someone like Michael Pittman. Marvin Jones is in a contract year and Danny Amendola is getting older. Geronimo Allison was a great flier but they need more. Pittman could be a long term answer. If you want to know more, just go watch USC and Utah this past year. He won the game by himself. Pittman also has great hands. Balls don’t hit the turf if you throw it his way.

Then again, this is the Lions. They drafted TJ Hockenson 8th last year repeating their dumb ass mistake of taking Eric Ebron with the same pick years prior. Maybe they like Jared Pickney with the 3rd pick this year? Could be a kicker off the board in the 2nd round to the Lions? Who knows.
