Week 4 of the College Football season is in the books. That means we have another 2020 NFL Draft update coming your way. This we have a number of games that I scouted coming your way. The games include Utah At USC, Michigan At Wisconsin, Auburn At Texas A&M, and Notre Dame At Georgia. I won’t waste any time because there is a lot to cover. Which players stood out for better or worse as the 2020 NFL Draft gets closer and closer?
Utah At USC
I came to see the running back that leads the country in broken tackles. That man is Zack Moss. Well, I came to see the wrong game. Moss left the contest rather early with a shoulder injury. He had 6 carries for 20 yards. Not a large enough sample size to gain anything from it. We will have to check back on Moss later in the season.
I think the
The real star was Michael Pittman Jr. The Utes had no answer for this man. 10 catches, 232 yards, and a score. They couldn’t cover him all night. Pittman has some speed for a 6-foot-4 cat. We will have to see if this continues. Is he this dominant reeling in contested catches or is the Utah corners that bad?
Free Stephen Carr. It’s embarrassing that Vavae Malepeai is the starter. Carr is the NFL guy. Forget about the box score. Carr was a 5-star recruit for a reason. He is third in the country for broken tackles. I’ve had enough watching him return kicks and get 2 carries a game. It’s embarrassing Clay Helton has to go. Just look at this run. Carr is going to end up being a steal you watch. No one is paying attention either. Well, you heard it here first. Tell your friends.
Michigan At Wisconsin
Shea Patterson blows. He’s not even draftable. Looks like a worse Johnny Manziel. I’m not talking about it anymore. I’ve done so already in the past. This clip is just too funny not to show. Patterson stinks so much that he is now throwing passes to
This is going to be a tough team to evaluate all year. There’s some serious bad vibes coming from there. I think they have some players too.
The star of the show is Jonathan Taylor. He’s going to go down as one of the best running backs in school history. That’s saying something. 23 carries, 203 yards, and 2 touchdowns is something. However, I think we need some context here.
Michigan couldn’t even sneeze on Taylor. There was always a hole to run through. Wisconsin was getting 4 yards a pop on fullback dives up the gut. When Garrett Groshek is averaging 10 yards a carry, we have a problem. Any running back would have success with the job this offensive line did. The scary part is that it’s a young group. The center is the only one with 2020 Draft hype.
That brings me back to Taylor. Look, I think he’s a good player. I don’t see the first round lock hype everyone else sees. This is not another Ezekiel Elliott. Taylor has plus balance and vision. I think he can be a starter in the league. I’m not sure how high his ceiling in. Melvin Gordon had that extra giddy up I don’t really see from Taylor. I think Taylor will run in the 4.4 but don’t see the dynamic traits that will make him elite.
Here’s the other problem. Taylor is going to enter the NFL with over 900 carries in 3 years at Wisconsin. Does he even make it to a 2nd contract? By the time Montee Ball got to the NFL, he was shot from too many touches. I think he could have been a quality back. He was done within a couple years. I’m not saying it will happen to Taylor but his workload isn’t good for his draft stock. Again, I like Taylor. There’s other back I like much more. One that we will get to later.
Auburn At Texas A&M
Derek Brown got off to a bit of a slow start this season. He would have been a top 10 pick in 2018. He decided to go back to school. Brown didn’t kill the Oregon offensive line like I would have seen but didn’t play bad by any means. This is the Derek Brown I know. He had a coming out party against the Aggies. Just put Brown in the NFL right now.
Brown finished the game with 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, and 2 pass deflections. He is a monster. Texas A&M rushed for 2.7 yards per
Brown is really underrated at this point. You’re going to see his stock drop. Two reasons why. One, he stayed in school for another year. Two, more critics will chirp his weaknesses because there is more tape to show. Good and bad. Don’t pay attention to hit. Brown is a monster.
This is another one. Don’t pay attention to the box score. The score was 21-3 at the end of the 3 quarter. Auburn let them back in the game when the win was already in the bag. Kellen Mond ain’t it. This is the last time I’m going to speak
Two quick hitters here. I was looking forward to the Kendrick Rogers breakout party. I think I picked the wrong guy. Hey, that’s why we do this. Quartney Davis just has another gear to him. It’s not to say Rogers is bad. I think Davis might be legit. It’s still early in the season so things can change.
Remember the corner I’m in on, Myles Jones? Yeah, Auburn tried not to throw the ball in his direction. Then again, Auburn has a weird offense. Sill a good sign.
Notre Dame At Georgia
I have two notes here. One for an offensive player. One for a defensive player. Let’s start with Chase Claypool. I really don’t know what he is. He almost looks like a mismatch tight end at receiver. I don’t know how he gets open but he does. Georgia was missing their top two corners and Claypool took advantage. He also played some special teams if that counts for anything. Claypool reeled in 6 receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown. He’s still really confusing to me.
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was the best player on the Notre Dame defense. He looked like a better Drue Tranquill. Owusu-Koramoah checks in around 215 and looks like a safety but plays linebacker. He led the team in tackles and also came up with 2.5 tackles for loss. If you can find players like this who can be chess pieces, it only makes them more valuable.
Jake Fromm is the toughest quarterback evaluation in the country. I think he has
Ok, now let’s get to D’Andre Swift. This is the best running back in the country. If someone tells you that it’s Jonathan Taylor, they do not know what they’re talking about. I would bet that Swift is the first running back off the board during the 2020 NFL Draft. Swift rushed for 98 yards and a score on 18 carries The ceiling on Swift is just so much higher. Just watch the games. Swift’s movement skills are just off the charts. His high end explosion is next level. Check out this run. This is what elite backs in the NFL look like.
I also want to brag up this offensive line. I don’t even think Fromm got touched in this game. Andrew Thomas is going to be a top 10 pick. Might be the most polished left tackle to come out in the draft in 5 years. Don’t see how he fails.
Last one. These Georgia safeties are the real deal. Richard LeCounte and JR Reed are both studs. I want to focus on Reed here because he was phenomenal. Reed managed to break up 3 passes and came away with a beautiful interception. If we have learned anything over the years, you draft defensive backs with elite ball skills. The ones the find the ball usually pan out. Tyrann
