2020 NBA Playoff Prediction: Boston Celtics vs Philadelphia 76ers

This NBA Playoff Prediction would be 100x better if the 76ers were fully healthy. Alas, they are not. But, that doesn’t mean this can’t be a good series right? RIGHT? Well. I wish I could say this could be a good series but I just don’t think that. Although, there are some things to note in this series.

Boston Celtics

I’ve come to love this Celtics team as the season went on. I have always loved Brad Stevens as a coach. In fact, he’s one of the best coaches in the league easily. I will admit that I was skeptical of the Celtics. I had no doubt that they would make the playoffs but I was wondering what their ceiling was. This positionless basketball is still a new trend in the NBA. However, I should have remembered who the coach was and knew that he would have no problem. The Celtics 6 best players really hold up this team. With Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kemba Walker, Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, and Daniel Theis. While Theis isn’t near the level of those other guys, he has done enough to establish himself with those guys rather than the trainwreck of the rest of the team.

That was another one of my concerns was the bench or lack thereof. How could I be confident in the Celtics if the bench was such a question mark? Once again, I was an idiot to question the brilliance of Brad Stevens. He was wise to offset the best players so that there is always production on the floor. Usually, they will have at least 2 of their best players on the floor. That way, the other players can rest and keeps them all fresh at the end of the game. Usually, when a team is deep, they have about 9 guys that can start anywhere. I’ll make the exception for the Celtics though, cause they are deep. Maybe not in players, but in talent. This team has a solid chance to go to the finals. They have enough players that can score to take any team and that includes the 76ers. However, one thing to worry about is Joel Embiid in the paint. I think he will bully Daniel Theis all series long. Will Boston be able to sustain that?

Philadelphia 76ers

I was big on this team before the season. Even quoting that I think they make the finals. Well, I was wrong. That’s okay, I can’t always be right. Al Horford has been worthless for the 76ers. Part of that is Brett Brown’s fault for putting Embiid and Horford on the floor at the same time. I’m not getting into that. This experiment has been a disaster. Now, Ben Simmons is injured and out for the rest of the season, which makes it worse for the 76ers. Any chance they had of beating the Celtics is gone. I don’t care about the 76ers defense, their offense is atrocious. They don’t have enough production on offense to scare anyone right now. Even at full strength, did they have enough defense to stop the Celtics? Much less, did they have enough offense to even keep up?

Prediction:

I asked earlier if Boston will be able to sustain Joel Embiid bullying Daniel Theis all season. The answer? It doesn’t matter. Tobias Harris and Al Horford aren’t going to do enough to help the 76ers win the series. Can you name any other player that is probably going to score 20 points for the 76ers? Didn’t think so. I will give the 76ers one game. I don’t usually like picking sweeps, but I feel that the Celtics will play really bad one game or have a terrible shooting night and the 76ers will hit everything. Even then, the 76ers will win that one game BARELY in this NBA Playoff Prediction. Other than that, the Celtics handle this one easily.

Celtics in 5.
