Zak Zinter Suffers Broken Tibia, Fibula in Win Over Ohio State

Michigan Football had an outstanding game against Ohio State, earning its third consecutive win against its arch-rival. It was not all perfect; however. The Wolverines’ only negative from its 30-24 victory was that right guard Zak Zinter was carted off the field with a leg injury. The future NFL player suffered a broken fibula and fibula, according to his mother, Tiffany.

Zinter is a three-year starter who has played a crucial role in Michigan’s offensive line dominance. In his first two seasons as a starter, Michigan’s offensive line won the Joe Moore Award. That success led to Zinter being named a captain in 2023.

Rather than heading to the NFL, Zinter opted to return to Michigan for the 2023 season. One of the main reasons was to play in massive games–like “The Game.” Unfortunately, he will be unable to participate in the Big Ten Champion and College Football Playoff.

Zinter’s injury will likely hurt his 2024 NFL Draft stock as well. Zinter has put a lot on film and has produced at a high level. That should help him fight off a plummet in draft position; however, a drop is inevitable.

After Zinter’s injury, Michigan adjusted its offensive line by moving right tackle Karsen Barnhart inside while bringing in Trente Jones to take over tackle responsibilities.

The loss of Zinter will hurt Michigan, but the Wolverines should be able to leverage its offensive line depth to stay afloat. It also helps that Jones is an upperclassman with experience.

Michigan will be heading to Indianapolis, Indiana to take on Iowa in the Big Ten Championship with a ticket to the College Football Playoffs on the line. The squad will be without Zinter, but Jim Harbaugh‘s suspension is over and he will return to the sidelines.
