Zack Snyder has a busy 2021 ahead of him, with Netflix release Army of the Dead and DCEU projects Zack Snyder’s Justice League and The Suicide Squad, of which he is director and producer respectively.
Speaking to Comic Book Debate, Snyder named his creative price for crossing the river and working for DC’s arch rivals Marvel.
“I would choose Elektra Lives Again” he said. “It’s a graphic novel about Elektra. Daredevil is having these dreams about Elektra coming back to life, and it’s really cool and weird… it’s just cool and beautiful.”
“That’s what I would do. No-one cares, but that’s what I would do.”
Elektra Lives Again was a story arc written by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley focusing on the Marvel characters Daredevil and Elektra, being published in 1990.
What’s most interesting about his choice is the fact that Marvel Studios received the rights to Daredevil back from Netflix in late 2020, sparking rumours of a revival of the former series which tied into the MCU. The show ran for three series and starred Charlie Cox as the titular character, and featured the likes of the Kingpin and Elektra, the other character mentioned by Snyder.
Zack Snyder has been ever present since the inception of the DCEU, and although his influence waned following his departure from 2017s Justice League, he will return to release his director’s cut of the movie this year.
The likelihood is we will never see Zack Snyder direct a film for the MCU but it does represent an interesting option.
