Zach Wilson To Start Against The Lions – Can He Redeem Himself?

Zach Wilson is getting his redemption chance. As Mike White will not be cleared to play, Robert Saleh has announced that Wilson will start, per Ian Rapoport.

After a number of weeks of the Mike White era, he just can’t go with his ribs as doctors will not clear him, per Adam Schefter.

This is actually pretty concerning for the Jets given the amazing difference in play between the two quarterbacks. With Mike White, he just makes the easy stuff look easy, and avoids putting the ball in danger. This is much more than Zach Wilson can say, which is unfortunate for Jets fans.

However, even the high-end elite throws are not there for Wilson, while White has made plenty of them in his limited opportunities. Even under pressure, getting absolutely killed against the Bills, White played a very good game. He stood in there and took massive hit after massive hit. Mike White never shrunk in that game, while Wilson has been disappointing all season.

Another part of the equation is, the guys just seem to like Mike White and dislike Zach Wilson. That can go a long way. Look at Taylor Heinicke in Washington. He is not a good quarterback and is not playing anywhere close to one, but man does that team like him. A quarterback has to either be great or be liked. One cannot be bad and disliked. After Wilson said that he did not let the defense down in the New England loss in week 11, it seemed like that comment lost him his starting job.

Zach Wilson needs to do one of two things against the Lions, preferably he would do both. He needs to either play the best he has ever played in the NFL, or he has to show some signs of maturity and growing up. In a perfect world he would do both, but let’s just start with one.
