Yannick Ngakoue Signs Deal With Raiders
Another pass rusher is officially off the market. Yannick Ngakoue has signed a contract with the Raiders. The deal is worth $26 million for two years. Vegas makes their first splash in free agency after watching Nelson Agholor sign with the Patriots for the same price.
The news was first reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Ngakoue, 25, was a bit of a mercenary in 2020. Ngakoue wanted out of Jacksonville and found himself traded twice. He first got moved to Minnesota. Once the Vikings found themselves out of contention, Baltimore scooped him up for the rest of the season.
Ngakoue is still a talented sack artist. He notched eight sacks in 2020 and has recorded 45.5 sacks in his five year career. The Raiders have struggled to generate a pass rush. Outside of Maxx Crosby, this is a huge area of need. Clelin Ferrell has been a huge bust so Ngakoue fits in nicely here.
The price tag seems like a great buy on the surface. A two year deal worth $26 million isn’t a big commitment. Gus Bradley is the new defensive coordinator in Vegas. Did Ngakoue take a discount to reunite with his old DC from Jacksonville? It could have played into the equation.
For Baltimore, this is the second pass rusher they have lost this offseason. Matt Judon already inked a deal with the Patriots. They will be relying on Tyus Bowser to make a huge leap this upcoming season.
