Yair Rodriguez Wants To Fight And “F*** Up” Ilia Topuria

The UFC is getting ready to have its biggest Pay Per View of the year on Saturday. UFC 298 is headlined by Alexander Volkanovski Vs Ilia Topuria for the Featherweight belt. However, it appears fellow Featherweight Yair Rodriguez is not a big fan of Topuria. Rodriguez shared his thoughts on the undefeated title challenger to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour.

Yair Rodriguez is fresh off a title bout loss to Volkanovski that took place last July. He worked his way up to an Interim Title before he was finished in the third round. Now, it seems that Rodriguez wants to fight Topuria in the near future. Rodriguez called Topuria annoying and cocky while sharing that he had an easy path to the belt.

A fight between the two is not far-fetched as Yair Rodriguez is ranked second and Ilia Topuria is ranked third. It should be noted, this will be determined by how the main event plays out on Saturday. However, one thing is clear and that is Yair Rodriguez does not like Topuria.

”I would F****** like to F*** him up”.

(Yair Rodriguez)

Yair Rodriguez Vs Topurias’ Path To The Title

Yair Rodriguez was on a two-fight win streak before he took a year off in 2020. He lost to Max Holloway in 2021 before going on a two-fight win streak. His wins against two top Featherweight contenders Brian Ortega and Josh Emmett made him a respectable choice to challenge Volkanovski.

However, Topuria has only beaten two ranked opponents and only one was in the top five. In these six fights Topuria four finishes three by knockout. He is undefeated in the UFC and he clearly has the talent to be a top contender. However, his one win in the top five does give validity to other contenders’ issues with his quick route to the belt. Ultimately, UFC fans will have to wait and see how UFC 298 plays out and Yair Rodriguez will have to be on the lookout for a future matchup against Topuria.
