After the title was all but canceled, CD Projekt Red has decided to reverse its decision on one of its upcoming Witcher games. The Witcher Sirius, a multiplayer game for the traditionally single player franchise, was thought to have been possibly canceled after a “re-evaluation” of it and subsidiary The Molasses Flood in March. But now, it seems CD Projekt Red has opted to resume production on the game instead of cancelling it.
While it was speculated that The Witcher Sirius was canceled, it was never confirmed by CD Projekt Red. In fact, the opposite is true. The title was never canceled, nor were there ever talks to cancel it, with CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński seeing the title as a way to “extend” the franchise.
“So this is a project which is, I would say, insourced,” Kiciński said, via IGN. “It’s also new to us in terms of design and format. For those reasons, it’s very different from the big productions we are known for. To stay competitive, we have to keep looking for new ways to extend our franchises.”
Still, the evaluation of both the title and The Molasses Flood in March certainly didn’t convey the message that the company desired to continue work on The Witcher Sirius. But now that it’s confirmed the title won’t be canceled, rather that it’s still being worked on, it will help re-establish confidence with regards to the direction the franchise is taking.
Nevertheless, with the shake-up of development studios, how will The Witcher Sirius turn out? Only time will tell if this shake up will improve or hurt the game.
